Tree pruning in Barneveld

Crown reduction, deadwood removal and the branches that cause a nuisance. I climb the tree, so no cherry picker has to come into your garden.

What I do when I prune your tree

Pruning is not simply making branches shorter. I take out what does not help the tree and leave what it needs in order to keep growing.

  • Reducing the crown

The crown is the leafy canopy of the tree. If it grows too big for the spot it stands in, I reduce it, in proportion, so it does not end up looking like a coat rack.

  • Deadwood out

Dead branches let go sooner or later. I take them out before they decide for themselves when to fall.

  • Branches that cause a nuisance

Over the roof, against the gutter, over the fence into next door, or right along the window. Those branches can go without the whole tree having to.

  • Water shoots and suckers

Those are the thin, upright shoots on the trunk and the branches. They cost the tree energy and make the crown dense.

  • Cabling and bracing

A heavy limb or a double leader does not always have to come off. With a brace I hold the crown together so the tree can stay standing safely.

  • Clearing up is part of it

The prunings go through the chipper and the rest goes with me. Your garden is left tidy.

Pruning pleached trees

A pleached tree is a tree kept flat in a shape, usually along a facade or as a green screen above a fence.

A tree like that only keeps its shape if it is cut back regularly. Leave it for a few years and it grows out of shape, and more work is needed to get it neat again.

If you have pleached trees in your garden, give me a call or send a photo. Then you will know what is needed and when I can best do it.

When to have a tree pruned

There is no single day in the year when it has to happen. There are moments when it works out more easily.

  • In winter the leaves are off. That is when you see the branches and the structure of the tree best.
  • Deadwood and branches that are a danger can go all year round. Those should not wait.
  • If there is a nest in the tree, that part stays until the birds have fledged.
  • Is a branch hanging heavily over the roof or the road? Call me and I will see when I can come.

Not sure whether your tree is due? Send a photo via WhatsApp. Often I can tell from that whether it can wait until winter.

What does tree pruning cost?

That depends on the tree, and that is not an evasive answer. The same species can be a very different job in your garden than three streets away.

What I look at when I am standing in your garden:

  • How tall and how heavy the tree is, and how much has to come off.
  • Where it stands: out in the open, or between the house, the shed and cables or pipes.
  • What is underneath the tree that has to stay intact.
  • Whether I can get the chipper near the tree, or whether the wood has to be carried to the front.
  • How much wood comes off and what happens to it.

That is why I want to see the tree first: by appointment, or from photos via WhatsApp. Call or message me for a no-obligation quote or an appointment. You know in advance what I will do and what it will cost.

Climbing instead of a cherry picker

I go up into the tree on rope and harness. That is not showing off, it is practical.

  • No heavy machine has to come onto your lawn or driveway, so nothing is left behind in the grass.
  • I reach branches a cherry picker cannot get to, including in a back garden without wide access.
  • From up in the tree I can see close up which branch has to go and which one stays.
  • I saw electrically. That means less noise for you and the neighbours.

Questions about pruning

If your question is not here, just call or message me.

How do I get a quote for pruning?
Call or message me for a no-obligation quote or an appointment. It can also be done via WhatsApp: send a few photos of the tree. No strings attached.
What can be done with my tree?
That depends on the tree: the species, how big it is and what state it is in. Once I have seen it, in your garden or in your photos, you will hear what is possible.
Do I know the price in advance?
Yes. You know what it will cost before I start.
When can you come?
That depends on my schedule. Just ask when you call or message me.
Do you need a cherry picker in my garden?
No. I climb the tree myself, so no machine has to come onto the lawn or the driveway. That means no tracks, and it also works in a garden a cherry picker cannot reach.
Do you take the prunings away?
Yes. The prunings go through the chipper and everything that is left goes with me.
Can you take off just one branch that hangs over the fence?
That is fine. Send me a photo of the branch and of the tree, and I can see straight away what it is about.
Do you speak English on the job as well?
Yes. Call or message me in English and I will call you back in English. On the day itself I will speak English with you too.
Do you prune outside Barneveld?
Yes. Barneveld and the villages around it, from Kootwijkerbroek and Lunteren to Ede, Scherpenzeel, Leusden and Amersfoort. Your town not on the list? Give me a call.

A tree that needs attention?

Three short questions and Nathan will call you back. Or just call, that is fine too.

  • No-obligation quote.
By appointment at the tree, or send photos via WhatsApp and I will base the quote on those.
  • No cherry picker.
I climb, so your lawn and driveway stay intact.
  • Everything goes with me.
Prunings through the chipper, the rest I take away.
